Chapter 249

President

 

The President is responsible for executing LMLA’s vision and overseeing all organization activities. They report to the Board of Directors to ensure adherence to the by-laws of the Organization.

The President is also responsible for:

  • Personnel Issues
  • Select and mentor Vice Presidents
  • Prepare the budget for the organization and assuring adherence
  • Holding monthly meetings with the Executive Committee for reporting and team building
  • Present issues and voting matters to the Board of Directors  

 

Vice President and Director Expectations

 

As LMLA is a leadership development organization, the below expectations are set for all vice presidents and directors.  These align to key full spectrum leadership principles embodied by Lockheed Martin.

 

All vice presidents and directors are expected to:

  • Align and flow-down vision and strategy of organization to contributing team members.
  • Correlate the calendar of team activities by maintaining consistent communication with team leaders.
  • Arrange for and conduct regularly scheduled meetings with team leaders.
  • Communicate roadblocks to LMLA leadership as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with peers to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and remove roadblocks for team.
  • Make timely decisions in accordance with vision, strategy, by-laws and operating procedures of the organization.
  • Understand, communicate, and uphold LMLA value proposition and by-laws at all times.
  • Ensure record of team activities is maintained for continuity purposes, ensuring ability to capitalize lessons learned from previous experiences.
  • Distribute workload evenly across contributing team members.

 

Program Management

 

Vice President of Program Management is responsible for all phases of programs and events from inception through completion.

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and performance of LMLA programs.
  • Coordinates the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract.
  • Leads their team that acts as primary customer contact for program activities, lead program review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing specifications.
  • Works with the peers to ensure all programs and events meet or exceed LMLA standards with respect to quality, cost, and schedule.

 

Programs

 

Director of Programs is responsible for providing meaningful networking experiences to create long-lasting, valuable connections, aligning event offerings with opportunities for membership to expand their leadership skills through practical experience, and reporting programs activities to NMA through the CAR1 Report.

 

Director of Programs is responsible for:

  • Creating an environment where relationships are leveraged to better all involved.
  • Planning events that will provide opportunities for membership proliferation.
  • Developing relationships within LM to secure opportunities for growth for the membership base.
  • Guiding programs and events from inception through completion; once time events and recurring events.
  • Helping establish overall strategic vision for the Programs team.
  • Ensuring programs and events exceed LMLA standards with respect to quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Setting stretch objectives for self and team to maximize the membership experience.
  • Ensuring the necessary processes, visibility, and governance are in place to drive successful delivery

Professional Development

 

Director of Professional Development is responsible for promoting professional growth through education and leadership experiences.  The professional development team demonstrates that LMLA is investing in members’ careers, giving them the necessary skills and confidence to succeed.  Course requirements and registration procedures are documented in the standard work for Professional Development.

 

Director of Professional Development is responsible for:

  • Creating an environment where members can make consistent investments into their future.
  • Promoting member growth opportunities in avenues currently known and unknown.
  • Developing relationships within Aero that foster positive brand image among members and executives.
  • Guiding programs and events from inception through completion.
  • Helping establish overall strategic vision for the Professional Development team.
  • Ensuring programs and events exceed LMLA standards with respect to quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Setting stretch objectives for self and team to maximize the membership experience.
  • Ensuring the necessary processes, visibility, and governance are in place to drive successful delivery.

Service

 

Director of Service is responsible for:

  • Creating and improving member engagement
  • Improving LMLA visibility within LM and the community.
  • Developing relationships within LM to secure opportunities for growth for the member base.
  • Guiding programs and events from inception through completion, such as community service, fundraising events and overall outreach efforts.
  • Helping establish overall strategic vision for the Service team.
  • Ensuring programs and events exceed LMLA standards with respect to quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Setting stretch objectives for self and team to maximize the membership experience.
  • Ensuring the necessary processes, visibility, and governance are in place to drive successful delivery.

 

Operations

Vice President of Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the internal administration of LMLA through management and enforcement of processes and procedures throughout the organization.

  • Directly responsible for day-to-day activities within the organization; including financial management, communications, and technology.
  • Organizes and continuously improves LMLA’s standard operating procedures to ensure effective and efficient performance throughout the organization.
  • Work with peers to develop and provide quality control measures to ensure company performance is monitored and measures are taken to adjust performance where needed.
  • The Vice President of Operations shall be responsible for reporting out total performance of the organization to the President.

 

Communications

 

Director of Communications is responsible for:

  • Collaborates with the Operations Vice President to develop communications strategies that will broaden LMLA’s reach and deepen impact
  • Develop and institute an overarching LMLA Communication Strategy to be used collaboration with other departments within LMLA and LM to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Set, convey and maintain the public voice of the organization
  • Develop and refine the "core" messages to ensure organizational consistency
  • Identify significant media and policy issues within Lockheed Martin (LM) that can be leveraged to support LMLA's work, and create and implement plans to exploit them
  • Serve as executive editor for the organization's website, SharePoint, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
  • Work with their team to ensure timely and accurate communication within LMLA and LM
  • Develop spokespeople among staff, community members, and key stakeholders through trainings in media relations and effective communications
  • Train/collaborate with other areas of LMLA on the importance of communication
  • Develop robust, clear, and collaborative communications templates, tools, and standard operating procedures for the entire LMLA organization to utilize

Finance

 

Director of Finance is responsible for:

  • Ensuring timely, accurate and responsive communication of LMLA Financials to the Board of Directors
  • Coordinating and preparing the Annual LMLA Fiscal Year Taxes
  • Developing, instituting and managing an overarching LMLA Budgetary Management Process to be used in collaboration with other departments within LMLA and LM to meet the needs of the organization’s product offerings
  • Establishing budgetary baseline for yearly product offerings and other LMLA expenses
  • Training and communicating with other areas of LMLA on the importance and fundamentals of budget management
  • Develop robust, clear, and collaborative budgetary and other financial templates, tools, and standard operating procedures for the entire LMLA organization to utilize
  • Responsible for LMLA banking and funds management, including check requests, account reconciliation, and banking deposits
  • Collaborates with the Operations Vice President to develop financial investment strategies that will broaden LMLA’s reach and deepen impact


Technology

 

Director of Technology is responsible for:

  • Collaborates with the Operations Vice President to develop technology and data analytics strategies that will broaden LMLA’s reach and deepen impact
  • Develop and institute an overarching LMLA Technology Roadmap to be used in collaboration with other departments within LMLA and LM to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Analyze the LMLA business requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs
  • Develop tools and analytics that drive LMLA leaders to improve efficiencies and make effective decisions
  • Develop creative, meaningful user/member experiences using tools and technology
  • Ensure IT systems and the people using the systems are effective and functioning within the limits of budget, time and specifications of LMLA needs
  • Establish user training for all systems
  • Constantly seeking continuous improvement and open to user feedback; check and adjust
  • Manage the IT systems to ensure they're constantly available to users; effective troubleshooting

Strategic Alignment

 

The Vice President of Strategic Alignment is responsible for overseeing all aspects of evolving the LMLA product offerings to meet the needs of the membership and developing / executing a marketing strategy to engage the membership in all LMLA product offerings. 

  • Responsible for evaluating and developing new and existing partnerships with other organizations that would enable LMLA to achieve its vision of cultivating inclusive leaders for our company, community and future.  
  • Work with the other Vice Presidents in LMLA to ensure product offerings enable the vision, engage the membership, can be executed efficiently by the performing organizations, and the marketing strategy is effectively reaching the membership.

 

The principles by which the strategic alignment team operates are as follows:

  • We are a service organization
  • We aid the leadership in defining goals and maintaining course to those goals
  • We provide ‘consulting’ services for the rest of the org chart
  • We work collaboratively with the operations and programs teams
  • We provide space to think strategically and provide recommendations
  • We enable implementation of path forward
  • We use data to help the organization course correct when needed
  • We are here to serve the organization, members and board

 

Member Relations

 

The Director of Member Relations evaluates membership experience provided through LMLA activities and recommends necessary actions.  The team recommends adjustments, best practices, and strategic shifts by gathering feedback and analyzing data.  Based upon these recommendations, the team partners with peer directorates to execute.

 

The Director of Member Relations is responsible for:

  • Recruiting new members, including collaborating with the LMLA leadership team to ensure the LM Aero On Boarding presentation engages new membership
  • Developing and maintaining a tempo for orienting new members to LMLA
  • Creating a Customer Service Strategy that integrates new members, engages existing members and attracts potential future membership
  • Ensuring that all event offerings are designed to meet the needs and wants of the membership in alignment with the vision and mission of developing and engaging leaders at LM
  • Conducting active retention planning, including feedback and exit interviewing processes
  • Developing and managing a Member Awards Recognition Program that will recognize key members who display the mission and vision of the organization
  • Establishing a membership base and events that have a focus on diversity & inclusion

Strategic Alliances

 

The Director of Strategic Alliances is responsible for:

  • Coordinating with the entire LMLA management team to determine potential areas to improve the organization through strategic partnerships
  • Analyzing relationships with current partnership organizations to determine the value of the relationship in meeting the LMLA vision and making recommendations on how to structure these relationships
  • Exploring and researching other organizations (inside and outside of Lockheed Martin) to determine if they can add value in achieving the LMLA vision and make recommendations on how to structure potential relationships
  • Making recommendations on alliances the LMLA senior staff with occasional briefs to the LMLA Board of Directors
  • Monitoring existing relationships to ensure each side of the relationship is still performing to benefit each organization
